Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English literature. In the year 1967, Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington she was named general correspondent by NBC News two year later. From 1981 onwards she began covering the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for Congress. She was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She was a member of an audience for the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered for the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. She covered many notable issues, such as the weapons control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to various summits while in the company of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
