She is a singer, designer and a music innovator. She was Mexican-American, but still traditional. She was the first to bring Tejano into mainstream music. She was a rising star whose untimely passing splintered it. As is the norm for a gifted, charming and young musician dies too soon people mourn the possibilities that she could not yet reach. Her fans have worked even harder to keep in mind what she has achieved. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena caused a resurgence within the Latino community which can be likened to the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. She was an incredibly loved singer by Latinos throughout North America. But her songs touched the hearts of both young and old. Selena has been called by some as an Latina Madonna, however she is still a great example to follow. Selena's family values off stage and involvement in AIDS awareness efforts are exemplary.
